RNC Chairman

This afternoon I heard the GOPAC chairman and former lieutenant governor of Maryland Michael Steele on Sean Hannity’s show.  Apparently Steele has decided to run for RNC Chairman.  (I haven’t found out yet how the position is filled.)  I was impressed with what he had to say.

An article in Monday’s Washington Post listed several contenders:

  • Michael Steele
  • Mike Duncan, current RNC Chairman
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Katon Dawson, chairman of the South Carolina GOP
  • Chip Saltsman, former chairman of the Tennessee GOP and Huckabee’s campaign chairman
  • Jim Nussle, head of White House OMB
  • Saul Anuzis, chairman of Michigan GOP
  • Jim Greer, chairman of Florida GOP

At this point, Steele would be my first choice, and Gringrich my second.  (I’ve never even heard of the others.)  The right person in this position could fill the leadership vacuum in the conservative movement and help in rebuilding it and the GOP.

Here is a video of Steele’s speech at the GOP convention this year from the C-SPAN channel on YouTube:

  1. I am pulling for Michael Steele. Steele is part of the reason I began to question my Democratic affiliation. About a year ago this AA middle aged female began to have doubts about the Democratic Party. I saw Steele earlier this year on Tavis Smiley’s State of the Black Union. My interest of the Republican further heightened after listening to Steele speak. And it’s safe to say that by the time the DNC finished with Hillary, I was done with them.

So yes, it is safe to say that Michael Steele could bring something refreshing and new to the Republican Party. The Democratic Party has convinced AA’s that Republicans are racist, yada, yada, yada. Many AA’s are too busy trying to make ends meet to delve into these accusations and find out the truth.

It is time someone rights the wrongs and sets history straight. I honestly believe Steele can do it.

  2. […] I ran across his name last month in a list of candidates for the position, which I wrote about here.  I didn’t know anything about him, so I did a little […]
