I wasn’t surprised that Rep. Perlmutter voted for the Democrats’ national energy tax (HR 2454, Waxman Markey, cap and trade) despite calls to the contrary from me and many others. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised either that he wrote part of the bill (two amendments) creating the largest tax in our history:
- His first amendment included “language of H.R. 2336, the Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhoods (GREEN) Act,” which “‘will help revitalize our economy by making energy efficiency practices more affordable, accessible and achievable by consumers, businesses and government entities.'” How much will that cost taxpayers?
- His second amendment limited “the establishment of a Building Energy Performance Labeling Program to new construction only” and was “was instrumental to gaining support from the nation’s realtors” for the cap and trade bill. Does Rep. Perlmutter work for the Democratic Party, real estate agents, or the people of Colorado’s Seventh Congressional District?
When the cost of everything starts going up, be sure you remember to thank Ed Perlmutter with a vote for his opponent in the next election.
