What the (Bleep) Just Happened? by Monica Crowley

I finally stopped reading Monica Crowley’s book What the (Bleep) Just Happened? The Happy Warrior’s Guide to the Great American Comeback (New York:  Broadside-HarperCollins, 2012) about page 99.

Someone with “two master’s degrees and a doctorate” (inside back flap of cover) should know how to properly document information that is not her own original work or common knowledge and be able to write an informative and well-organized volume.

Crowley’s book includes no notes or bibliography.

Also, the ridiculous and clearly untrue statements regularly inserted into the text are just annoying–and distracting.  For example, in a list of spending items from the Democrats’ stimulus package, Crowley includes the following:

  • $50 to convince Barbara Mikulski to jump off the ferryboat
  • $85.000 to find out why people hate this list
  • $2 million to study why people don’t ride unicycles to work

Since no source is given, it’s unclear whether the other items in her list, including “$500 billion to paint Bill Clinton’s face on the side of a pleasure boat” and “$6,000 for a document on Worcestershire sauce,” were really in the stimulus bill.

This is the sad case for the entire book.  Without proper documentation, it’s impossible to know what is true and what isn’t.

If you want to review Obama’s and other Democrats’ recent socialist activities or learn about his background, I’d recommend reading The Great Destroyer by David Limbaugh and The Roots of Obama’s Rage by Dinesh D’Souza.

I’m just glad I got What the (Bleep) Just Happened? from the library rather than buying my own copy.
