Democrat “Health Insurance Reform” Talking Points for Townhall Meetings

Human Events has posted a copy of a letter from Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic leadership to Democratic members of Congress outlining a “Strategic Communications Plan for August: Health Insurance Reform” for them “to use this month to build support and momentum so [they] can return in September well-positioned to pass a health reform bill in the House.”

The letter includes the following talking points that are “in sync with the White House” and counter “the Republican ‘government takeover’ message”:

  • Hold the insurance companies accountable.
  • Remove them from between you and your doctor.
  • No discrimination for pre-existing conditions.
  • No dropping your coverage because you get sick.
  • No more job or life decisions made based on loss of coverage.
  • No need to change doctors or plans.
  • No co-pays for preventive care.
  • No excessive out-of-pocket expenses, deductibles, or co-pays.
  • No yearly or lifetime cost caps on what insurance companies cover.

How will you respond to these points if your senator or representative raises them?

Letter to My Senators and Representative

Following is the letter I sent to Colorado’s U.S. Senators, Mark Udall and Michael Bennet, and my Representative, Ed Perlmutter, through their websites:

Under the Constitution, which you took an oath to uphold, the federal government has no power over health care or insurance.

There are only 8 million American citizens who are without health insurance because they cannot afford it or are not eligible for another program.  That is less than 3% of the population of the U.S.  In any case, it’s not the government’s responsibility to provide health insurance for those people.

You represent me and other voters in Colorado, and the majority of us are happy with the health coverage that we have.  Do NOT vote for any legislation that would interfere with our right to make our own decisions about our health care and coverage.

In fact, please do NOT vote for any bill that you have not read.

Who Is Reading the Health Care Bill?

As you have probably already learned this year, Democrats in Congress are not reading bills before they vote on them–even if they allow time for anyone to read them.  Obama demonstrated this week that he isn’t familiar with the provisions in H.R. 3200, the House version of the health care bill.

Who is reading it? At least these people are:

Go to their sites to find out what they’ve gleaned from the bill.

#Obamacare Bill in Senate Finance Committee

According to an Associated Press story, this morning “Obama met . . . with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont. Reid said Thursday that the panel will push to complete a bill before the Senate breaks Aug. 7. Baucus has been negotiating with the panel’s Republicans in hopes of producing a bipartisan bill.”

We need to put pressure on Democrats and Republicans on the committee to keep them from passing the bill–before or after the Senate’s recess.  Here are the members of the Finance Committee with links to their websites:

Organizations Supporting Government-Run Health Care

The organizations listed below are working to support the liberals’ attempt to take over the health care industry.  We, conservatives, need to watch and counter their efforts.  July 31 is their target date for the House of Representatives to produce and pass a full plan.

Federal government websites promoting “health care reform”:

When I started searching, I expected to find about ten organizations.  I’m floored at how many there are.  Can we win?  Can we retain our liberty and control of our health care?

I’ve found the following petitions opposing government-run health care:

While searching for these petitions, I found three or four times as many in favor of “health care reform” or “the public option.”
